Here are few of my favorite “Best Me” indulgences:
- Micro-Needling - I love the results from this treatment. The needles create tiny holes that allow product to penetrate deeper into the skin. The tiny holes also encourage cell turnover. This can be done by a professional, but I’m comfortable doing this diy-style. Please note, if you opt to try a roller, the needle rollers are definitely better than the disc versions.
- Red Light Therapy - I’ve only used the cheaper wand version but do believe they actually help. I would like to invest in a better unit. However, I like to use it on my scalp as well … I like the flexibility and the massage feature that the wand provides.
- Face/Eye Masks - I view masks as nice indulgences. Yes, you could simply apply a product, but using a mask just creates that “treat yourself” vibe … It’s a big yes for me. As usual, I look at the ingredients to ensure there re no flareup triggers.
- A Filter Shower Head - I avoid tap water. There are mineral deposits and additives that can contribute to skin/scalp irritation. I cleanse my face with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and wipe it off with a paper towel. If I’m doing a special treatment (like a peel (very rare for me) or hair treatment) that requires rinsing out of the shower, I use bottled spring or distilled water for the final rinse.
- Retinal - I use a retinal serum after my glycolic acid treatment. That combo, in addition to the tissue-off cleansing, is all the exfoliating I need with my sensitive skin. Why retinal and not retinol? The main difference between retinal and retinol is the speed in which each ingredient works on the skin. Retinal can work up to 11 times faster than traditional retinol, which makes it a good pick for mature skin types who want to see a significant improvement in fines lines and wrinkles as quickly as possible.
